Analyse Three Website Double Page Similar to the One I Intend to Create

Website Analysis of Coast

The layout is very important to the success of a business because it gives the viewers a 'taste' of how the business operates before they even going into detail. Businesses will want to make there websites attractive to people and appeal to them to give them a first good impressions so people think they professional. This website though has a very modern layout with the use go bright colours and the website itself has a lot of interactive options. As the website is easy to navigate and as everything clearly labelled it appeals to the target audience and will encourage them to re visit again. The colour scheme and the type of images used on this website is also used on their magazine so they carry their theme over to their website. Coast also outlines all their key stories with a subtle text box around the writing which makes it clear and easy to read for the consumer. As you can see from both of these screenshots all the photos are neatly and evenly separated with a thin white border separating each image. This is a unique but effective method as the consumer can cloudy identify the different stories as there not all piled on top of each other but it also give the website a fun but professional look. This website home page follows the common codes and conventions of a regular magazine website home page as it clearly has its masthead bold and has the menu keys at the top followed by a drop down option. This again is effective because then not all the stories and options are already on the screen because this could potentially look crowded instead this drop down menu keeps all the writing out of the way of the home page which allows the consumer to enjoy the main photos and articles before negativing through other options on the home page.

As the photos gone on this website, they are very bright and colourful but also look very modern which is probably down to Coast wanted to attract their target audience. Coast uses a variety of photos from interior designs of house and and apartments to coastal shots. The photos are very interesting and definitely appeal to people and grabs their attention. All of the images on the website represent to their corresponding article and all relate to their genre. Coast uses a range of different camera shots and angle sin order to capture their target audience's attention along with making their photos look attractive and appealing. There is a lot of colour used in these photos which works well because the rest of the website and magazine is also very colourful so they relate to the magazines theme.

In terms of the masthead it is only located on the home page. It is the first thing you see when you open Coasts website which is effective because then people known there looking at Coast magazine. On the home page these masthead is big bold and because of it being white it stand out well on most photos. Most website have there masthead located at the top of their website where it will remain no matter where you adventure on the website but Coast explores this different. They only have this one masthead on the home page and then on other pages its still located in the same place but a lot smaller and no longer bold. They position it just above what the article is talking about. I believe they do this because they made it clear to the consumer who the brand was when they first entered the site and now they play it more low key so it doesn't get in the way of the consumer reading the article. I like this feature because they still locate the masthead everywhere which people can acknowledge which creates good brand recognition but does overload it for the consumer and make them frustrated.

Coast is very colour scheme and it works very successfully on their website. Because of how bright and colourful the magazine and photos are it was hard to judge how the would lay out their website and the how the use of colour would be added. From the drop down box at the menu you can choose to go to a variety of different articles, for example I clicked on the 'properties' section. From here you can see that this article follows a blue colour scheme. The text boxes all share the same shade of blue. With he text boxes being this shade it allows the masthead and other text stand our and really appeal to the consumer.  Even if you look close enough to the photos the primary colour in them is blue is thats why its added to this section of the website. The main image on this page captures parts of the house, the sky and the sea which all is blue and thats why it works well on this page of the website. Along with the rest of the photos and even the arrow on the right, its all blue and thats the colour scheme for this article. If I chose to go onto a different article the colour could be different and the images would match it and make the page look neat and attractive to the consumer.

In terms of lexis, its traditional and consistent throughout with attracts to their target audience. The lexis is formal and adds in a use of modern themes which allow Coasts target audience to be shown. Lexical choices means that the content correctly represent the audience which present themes which relate not only to the content but to their target audience.

Website Analysis of Cornwall Today

The next website analysis of a regional magazine I will be reviewing is 'Cornwall Today'. Cornwall Today is an award-winning sophisticated magazine based in the heart of Cornwall that prides itself on its combination of superb photography and inspiring editorial. Named Best Regional Magazine in the 2014 Newspaper Awards, with our website shortlisted for Best Digital Innovation, Cornwall Today is the biggest and best-selling monthly magazine for Cornwall, bringing you fascinating features and stunning photographs covering walks, wildlife, art, food, leisure, wellbeing, homes, gardens and much more.

The layout of this website is very traditional and easy to navigate. The top left of this website its where the masthead is of the magazine and is located very large. Its back and the white background makes this stand out even more and its the first thing which draws your attention to this website home page. In the top right is an advertisement for 'Newquay Airport' which this and the masthead stay on the page no matter what link you click on. Below this running across the page is a list of options which the consumer can navigate through. These are in dark grey boxes with white writing on top which makes it clear to the consumer what it says. A lot of these boxes have a drop down option with a list of more articles and features instead of having them cluttering up the home page this home page has a list of subheadings almost like a contents page. Below this again is them advertising their own magazine which again is in another dark grey box which makes it stand out again with a white border around this. Further more they also have some of their main articles shown on the home page to attract some of the consumers. A cool feature that Cornwall Today has added into their website is that the main articles on the right hand side constantly keep rating so there is an article for everyone so while the one consumer might not be attracted to this article in a matter of seconds this article which switch to a new one which then might attract the consumer on their website.

On their website they have their own photo galley which contains photos from towns and places from all over cornwall. Because of this there is a lot of photos scattered all around there websites.  These there photos is just a sense of what they publish on their website. As you can see the photo on the left is a picture of the Eden Project. Its a high angle shot overlooking the Eden Project. This photo will replay attract Cornwall's enthusiasts as it also captures all its nature and beauty. Cornwall today use a range of interesting photos which are all aimed at their target audience. They all can grab your attention and they also come with an article, so soon as a consumer is fascinated by an image on their website they only have to simple click on it to read an article on it which they're most likely to do. Cornwall Today rely's on their images quite a lot as they use them as the main attraction to the article.

Unlike the previous website that I analysed, Cornwall Today's masthead follows the consumer no matter what page they go on. This establishes a strong brand recognition between both the product and the website design with creates similar themes for the audience. Also the font is simple and effective as its slick but still stands out due to the colours which I touched on early. Furthermore, the simplistic header also incorporates an advertisement, an important theme for a regional magazine, fitting this genre.

From this screenshot you can clearly identify that the two primary colours used by Cornwall Today, is a dark grey and white. The actually background of the website is white and they overlay grey text boxes on it and then white text over them so it really stands out. The range of these two colours allow each other to contrast and allow the images and text stand out to the consumer. On other pages they use the colours blue and orange which adds some colour and life to the website. The orange could link to summer and sand, where as the blue could link to the sea and the sky. These colours are also used as text boxes around lesser articles which maybe Cornwall Today is trying to raise the importance and viewing of it. The font is consistent throughout although they use a variety of colours which is usually the opposite of the background.

The lexis choice shown throughout the whole of this website are traditional and modern, similar to coast. The text is formal and the audience is shown well through the words relating to content, specific ideas as well as representing specific topics.

Website Analysis of Devon Life

Devon Life is slightly different to the previous websites I have analyses because in terms of layout this website seems like a more news based website rather than a regional magazine. Although it the layout fit more modern times which allow for a sophisticated and perhaps younger target audience. The layout of this website differs from the previous two although from first sighting Devon life has a large advertisement at the top of they website just like Cornwall Today had when they were advertising Newquay airport. SO in that sense that have a similarity. Devon life also follow the same codes and conventions as the previous two did by the use of text boxes underneath images and text to allow them to stand out and reach out to the target audience. Devon life layout though is a lot more sophisticated than the previous two that I analysed. There is a good use of colour to make the website look attractive and stylish. The use of style allows the website to look appealing to the consumer and modern such as the menu bar. The layout is also different to the previous ones as these are split into columns.
As you can see from this screenshot that there is a good amount of images used crossed the home page of the website. The images indicate to the consumer about the article and content. You can see that there is an image with each section of content for the consumer to view although the photos don't seem as exciting and interesting as the previous websites did as these images may not grab the attention of the consumer and therefore they could loose sales in their magazine to competitors.

The masthead is located in the top left of the website like Cornwall Today. The masthead of Devon Life is the same to their magazine again which creates a strong brand recognition. The black of the masthead works well against the white background and follows Levi Strauss' Binary Opposition theory. Underneath is a colourful menu bar which looks appealing to the consumer and has a social link with supports my theory of that this website could be aimed at a younger target audience. They also have incorporated a search bar which is nice feature because it allows the consumer to each for content they want to see rather than digging through the website. This is user friendly and definitely could attract returning customers.

Its hard to say what the primary colours of this website is as Devon Life like to inculpated a lot of colours as text boxes to try and make the website look attractive to the eye. Most of the text is in dark grey against a white background which stands out well and even of its size looks very neat and sophisticated. There is also a lot of advertisement scattered around this website and that adds even more colour to it so does it have too much colour? I would say it has a wide range of colours but its not too colourful as it has a white background and black text which takes up 70% of the website.
With regards to type and lexical choices, a conventional, traditional type face is used for the body of the text. While a typeface with a serif is used for the masthead. Devon Life isn't as formal as the previous two which adds in a friendly factor to the website. All the other pages on this website follow similar common codes and conventions.
