Synopsis of Own Ideas

Previously I made a post on my initial thoughts and ideas regarding style and genre. Since that post i have done a lot of research concerning regional magazines in my area.  I originally stated in my initial ideas that I wanted to appeal to a wide target audience purely because conventionally regional magazine appeal to an older target audience while Ill be creating products that appeal to a younger target audience. After doing a lot of research I found out that I was correct when saying that most regional magazines are actually aimed at an older target audience but I also now believe that I won't be able to successful appeal to this wide target range. Furthermore, I'm going to only focus on a younger target audience as all three of my surveys was majority answered by a younger age bracket. I still believe that my website will be a good advertisement for the younger target age group along with pushing this further by the  potential use of social media and have a connection of this linked to my website. The main thing that will have to change is that I will now have to focus on themes, images and content that appeal to a younger target audience instead of the conventional older age bracket. Along with trying to appeal to a younger age group this will also affect the social class bracket that I'm going to market towards. The conventional social bracket for regional magazines in my area is A-C1. This won't be able to be the case when appealing to a younger target audience. My new social bracket will be now C2-E.
I said in my initial ideas that I will be looking to apply themes that will attract my younger audience and as you will see in my previous survey post that this was the response I got. As almost 50% of people under 18 answered my survey this means that the likelihood is that these responses do appeal to them. From this bar chart you are able to see that Music, Watching TV and Sports are very popular within the under 18's. This tells me that I will be using images, colours and contents that relate to this activities. By doing this I will be able to connect to my target audience and this should create a customer base. Taking all my research into account the younger age bracket will now be my primary target audience and I may additionally include the conventional 51+, A-C1 as my secondary audience. Im not expecting much attention if any at all from my secondary audience as there interests will be completely different from my primary audience. Furthermore this means that I will rely even more on my primary audience to generate sales. Also from my survey and my secondary research I found out that there was a 50/50 split in gender over regional magazines. This means that in this area nothing will change from my initial ideas as I will still be trying to use themes that will attract to both genders, this does slightly open up my customer base as well.
Likewise in my initial ideas I originally wanted to create a lifestyle magazine. This has not changed but because my target audience has changed some of the content included may actually changed. Originally I mentioned that I was concerned over the mass of competition in my area. There are many big competitors in my area such as Cornwall Today, Coast and Cornwall Life who all operate regional lifestyle magazines. Moreover I originally planned to go straight into this market with the same target audience and same ideas but looking at that now I would not of been able to get a big customer base without the use of appealing promotion and effective pricing strategy. Now that I'm trying to appeal at a younger target audience there is hardly any competition anymore.
In conclusion I have decided to still create a lifestyle magazines in my current area but changing my primary target audience to 'under 18's' instead of the conventional 51+.
