The first English magazine was Review. It was published in 1704, in London. Review was published between 1704 and 1713 without interruption, and had three issues a week. The Review magazine reported on social and political issues in the UK along with commercial advertising. Review magazine was published by Daniel Defoe, who was an English trader, writer, journalist, pamphleteer, and spy, most famous for his novel Robinson Crusoe. Daniel Defoe was born in 1660 in London, England. He became a merchant and participated in several failing businesses, facing bankruptcy and aggressive creditors. He was also a prolific political pamphleteer, which landed him in prison for slander. Late in life he turned his pen to fiction and wrote Robinson Crusoe, one of the most widely read and influential novels of all time. Defoe died in 1731. There has been a lot of change in recent times to how magazines have evolved and adapted to t
he modern era. These changes can be more noticeable in Woman’s magazines. There used be a lot of mother and housewife magazines on the market but the main magazines these days are celebrity gossip, fashion and latest trends. The market has grown vastly over time to cater for these magazines and the demand by the public and enforced the amount of these magazines we see in supermarket shelves these days. Some of the more popular ones are: OK!, Glamour, Hello! And Heat.
Regional
Magazines is a magazine that usually gets released monthly and contains details
on that area or county. The purpose of these types of magazines it to build up
the knowledge of the people who live in the town or to inform them of events
they need to visit and likewise when they need to visit it. It supplies a lot
of information from local facilities to the news. All magazines tend to offer a
monthly service instead of a weekly service because it is not considered to be
enough information to make it a weekly magazine. This means the monthly issue
is packed with much more information but could come with a slightly higher
price. A lot of modern regional magazines seem to offer a subscription service
because this now will guarantee them income all year round, however some offer
individual issues.
Regional
magazines used to be only sold in their corresponding town but these days they
now can be sold across the country, as they do not want to limit their target
market, this would be due to someone moving away from their house but still
wanting to be updated on their hometown. However of course, their largest
market is still to be within the area of which the magazine is about.
